EcoLiderar
We’re Maria, Mafalda, Clara, and Madalena from sea scouts group 797 Nova Oeiras. In our final year, we embraced the challenge of being a “Tide of Change” — learning about and protecting the sea we love, while inspiring others to do the same. Through EcoLead, we aim to promote sustainability and lead by example, both in scouting and in everyday life.
We held four activities and a final community action:
– A talk with Duarte Costa on youth and climate action.
– Workshops on recycling with local schoolchildren.
– An exhibition on ocean pollution and water care.
– A sustainable market and recycling signs for our group.
We ended with a beach clean-up, giving back to the place that inspires us.
We learned that meaningful change begins with small local actions
and discovered the power of community cooperation, the importance of informing and raising awareness before taking action, and that environmental leadership requires persistence and empathy. We also realized that true impact happens when education, action, and a passion for nature come together around a common purpose.
