Drug prevention

Drug prevention

I attended the lecture regarding the prophylaxis programme regarding Drug Prevention, this was held on the 25th of February 2020. I believe that you all have gained a profound understanding regarding this matter. 35 Scouts represented Isipathana College on this day. It was held at the ADIC company, located at Park road Colombo 5. The programme was two and a half hours long. The lecture was conducted by Dr. Kavindu Ahangama.

The purpose of this programme was to raise awareness on the growing concern that is prominent in Society regarding the ever increasing abuse of drugs and addictive substances. The main point of discussion revolved around the statement: "Our brothers have increasingly abused substances over the past few years and we need to take action to rescue them from the ruthless grip of addictive drugs.
The lecturer further elaborated on topics like, "What is a drug? and also he provided valuable insights regarding the most common addictive substance, which is tobacco, found in ciggarettes.
Another important topic which was covered during this lecture was the involvement of media in encouraging the youth to consume substances such as tobacco. It can be observed that television, social media and other forms of entertainment glorify the use of addictive substances, specially alcohol and tobacco.
At the end of this lecture the ultimate goal was declared by the lecturer, which is to completely erradicate the drug threat that is ever increasing in Sri Lanka.
I have to thank my parents, friends and Scout Leader for devoting their time and effort to help me organize the activities that contributed to the success on this day.
