DRAWING HOPE TO THE HOPELESS

I am Owiti Evance Otieno an enthusiastic scout. I have witnessed a lot of young people get into drugs and sabotage their future live to drug addiction, I have witnessed young enthusiastic persons with disabilities denied opportunities to achieve their desired goals and street children loose their lives without accomplishing anything in life to crime. This acted as a motivation to help me find a way to ensure these young people pursue their dreams with passion efficiently and effectively.
The project was done at Kisii Vocation and Rehabilitation Centre in Kenya. We wrote project proposals and concept notes which drew the attention of potential members of the community to support the project. We did some fund raising with the help of our unit Kisii University Flamingo rover scouts. We also got some moral support from our National Youth Leader and financial support from our partners.
A number of young people from the vocation centre and other orphanages benefited from this project. Approximately 75-120 young people have so far benefited from this project. from the vocation we had 72 boys and girls recieving sanitary Pads, boxers and inner clothings meant for ladies. at Keumbu Children's Home we provided them with Sanitary Pads, inner garments and normal clothes, we also provided them with toiletries and stationaries. We also did the same thing to Umbrella Children's Home.
During this project we have learnt a lot which includes: 1. The fact that we are not equal financial, physically or even emotionally shouldn't be a barrier to us and a hindrance to creating a better world. 2. Disability is not inability, each and every person has their own abilities apart from physical abilities. 3. even with our own physical disabilities we can still achieve with ability what we dream to achieve. 4. Financial constraints should not hinder us from doing good.
