Hundreds of Irish Venture and Rover Scouts have assisted in suicide prevention by offering their services to help raise funds for a suicide prevention and support center. The unique event begins at night and consists of a hike to witness the dawn of a new day early in the morning. Venture and Rover Scouts provided all the expertise to marshal people on hike routes and mountain tops.   What makes this event so special? Is it remembering all those who have died by suicide throughout the years? Is it because it’s a hugely positive step towards the prevention of suicide in Ireland? Is it because it’s a novelty getting up at 3am and going for a walk or run? Or is it the closeness shared between all the participants, warming themselves with a cup of hot tea, watching the dawn rise? Possibly, it is all of these things.   Apart from their participation in the event all the Scouts also took part in many activities and programme within their own groups to become aware of the situations that lead to suicide and how important friendship and understanding are to help friends who are depressed or troubled in their lives, as well as valuable life skills.
