A commemorative ceremony at the National Historic Memorial

On April 9, 2015 Scouts of the Kiev city branch of National Organization of the Scouts of Ukraine took part in the commemorative ceremony in the National Historic Memorial on the site of the former village of Bykivnia "Bykivnia Graves". During the Stalinist period in the Soviet Union, it was one of the unmarked mass grave sites where the NKVD, the Soviet secret police, disposed of thousands of executed "enemies of the Soviet state". Bykivnia forest is one of the biggest burial places of people, who suffered from political repression in Ukraine. The darkest pages of our history that we should honor and remember to not let it happen again. The presidents of Ukraine and Poland attended the event as well as active citizens and young people of both countries.
