CMIC Scouts Ongoing Recycling Project

CMIC Scouts Ongoing Recycling Project

An ongoing project since 2006 in our school. The Scouts collect assorted plastic bottles and segregates them as PET and Assorted types. Bottles are process by removing their contents which are collected in a bucket and used to water plants. Bottle caps are also collected into a separate container. Plastic wrapping are discarded as non-recyclables. The cleaned bottles are then placed in sacks and are sold to the nearest junk shop for recycling. We collected amounts are kept for use in other service projects. We usually sell the bottles at 18 to 20 pesos / kilo, bottle caps at 12 to 14 pesos / kilo, and the assorted plastics at 8 to 11 pesos / kilo. We also collect used papers from the different classrooms and offices to be segregated as white papers, colored papers, cartons and sold to junk shop.
