Cloth drive - Finding a new, better purpose
Bhutan is a developing country and remote villages are isolated from the main and the most happening towns and hubs. People in these areas struggle to make ends meet and work tirelessly to earn a living. With priorities set they can't afford to buy proper clothing for themselves and their children.
Whereas people in urban hubs following the ever changing fast fashion keeps tons of clothes under utilized in their wardrobes.
This motivated our team to undertake this clothe drive program
Our team consisting of students from the College of Natural Resources conceived and implemented the project in Punakha and Wangdue dzongkha,Bhutan.
For the project first step was to collect the clothes from people
After the collection our team along with the other volunteers washed the clothes to prevent the spread of communicable diseases
And the final and most fulfilling step lies in the final distribution of the clothes whereby old clothes fine a new home and people find happiness
More than 300 local people in 3 remote places under Punakha and Wangdue dzongkhag benefitted from the project that took place in the last 2 years in 3 batches of distribution.
We tried to give meaning to the quote 'one mans trash is another mans treasure'
From this project i learned about the value of things and sustainability and how we can as a scout and as a volunteer can make a difference in people's like by just merely acting as a bridge between the underprivileged and the highs of the society. How we can work to narrow the gap and how we can find happiness and contentment in seeing other people smile.
Given the positive impacts we can only strive to continue with the projects and increase our reach throughout the country
