Cleaning Campaign and IDP day celebration 2022
I am sonam Tobgay, a scout leaders from Phuentsholing, Bhutan. The motives behind my projects was to keep our surrounding clean and safe for the people who are residing near by and also the daily travelers. In order to celebrate International day of peace at our own level despite of busy daily teaching and learning, we celebrated the day by cleaning our environment.
The other motives includes youth engagement as 85% of the participants are youths aged between 13-17.
The program was started with prayers and introduction of the cleaning campaign at the school assembly ground. The participants were divided into six groups as per the class and section with minimum of 4 scouts leader and other non-scouts leaders. The participants collected 38 sacks of wastes along the national highway from Roundabout junction to Hotel Lhekphel, covering more than three kilometers. The refreshment of the day was sponsored by Phuentsholing Municipal corporation and the shopkeeper.
The cleaning campaign has benefited around 1000 people residing along the national highway and about 2000 daily travelers, who travels from this national highway. The cleaning campaign also advocated the people residing along the highways about "My waste, my responsibility".
As a team within two and half hours we have collected 38 sacks of wastes along the highway and the power of working and coordinating in a team make a vast difference than working alone. I also learnt about the dedication and commitments that is needed for team work.
