CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION CAN SAVE US FROM COVID-19
* What is Sanitation?
- According to Merriam Dictionary sanitation is a conditions relating to public health, especially the provision of clean drinking water and adequate sewage disposal.
* How can we prevent sanitation?
- access to safe drinking water (e.g. water safety planning (the management of water from the source to tap);
- household water treatment and safe storage)
- access to improved sanitation facilities.
Hand washing with soap at critical times (e.g. after toilet use and before the preparation of food).
* What are the benefits that you can get in sanitation?
- it can reduce the spread of intestinal worms, schistosomiasis and trachoma, which are neglected tropical diseases that cause suffering for millions;
- it can also reduce the severity and impact of malnutrition;
- promote dignity and boost safety, particularly among women and girls;
- promoting school attendance: girls’ school attendance is particularly boosted by the provision of separate sanitary facilities; and
- potential recovery of water, renewable energy and nutrients from faecal waste.
