Children battling Invasive Vine Infestation(I.V.I.) in the children's garden

Den 3 (Wolf), of Cub Scout pack 48 completed their first conservation/ public service project at the Willoughby Heritage Farm and Conservation Reserve, in Collinsville, IL.  The project involved the removal of invasive exotic plant species from an area of the farm's children's garden and replanting the area with native flowering plants. Our Den coordinated our project through the Collinsville Area Recreation Ditsrict (CARD), the Heritage farm's director and the University of Illinois Master Gardener/ Naturalist in charge of the area.  The boys cleared a 375 square foot patch, at the western entrance of the garden, of honeysuckle and other invasive vines and replanted the area with about forty various native species plants and seeds for woodland and wetland restoration.  The project took the boys a little more than 2 hours plus about 4 hours of site preparation prior to the boys showing up by a couple of Willoughby's volunteers.
