Cemetery Cleaning Project #38th Colombo scouts
The calm and beautiful area of the cemetery which was left unpainted made me think of how it would look once it was fully repainted and cleaned, that way it would have looked much more attractive and also the fact that I would be helping a few other institutions in carrying out a social service activity.
The cemetery cleaning project was conducted on the Pannipitiya public cemetery on the 11th of Decemeber, 2021, all arrangements regarding the project conduction, lunch, refreshments, relevant permission letters and scout confirmations were done prior to the project day.
And on the start of the project, an opening of ceremony was held to start of the event.
We painted the main gate, cremation compound, side walls, outside wall skirts, swept the pathways and left trimming the grass for last.
The main institutions that benefited from this project were the municipal council of the area, the cemetery staff and the residents nearby.
There was a positive impact on both the scouts, who were happy to do it together with their friends, and on the cemetery staff who gladly gave their support in providing necessary requirements such as tables, chairs and an area to have lunch.
A few of the villagers and other people passing by stopped to make comments on their thoughts on this project too
I learnt that doing things as a team with friends makes the work much easier and enjoyable to complete and that doing such activities is not only good for physical and mental wellbeing, but for the society and the impression on scouts worldwide.
I hope to do my best in future projects organised in this manner.
