Celebration of international Peace Day on 21st September in Gelephu MSS
The celebration of the peace day with ushering the guest of honor, the Principal of our school with badging of dove attached ribbon at the entrance. The scout leaders walked in the Chief guest and the guests. The guests consisted of 40 school teachers. Once in the hall adorned with balloons and dove pictures, the Principal offered the butter lamp for the prevalence of the peace. Then, the singing of the zhabtoen ensued. The nation anthem roared. After singing the camp anthem, the Principal highlighted the importance of the day emphasizing on the popular quote from The Preamble to the Constitution of UNESCO that declares “since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.”
She cited simple ways of making peace, like staying in a safe neighborhood and studying in a comfortable school where the needs and the safety of the children are well taken care of. She ended saying, “Let’s construct peace in our mind first.”
Next, the scout leader delivered a speech highlighting the importance of this year’s theme, “Climate Action for Peace.” He read the message from the UN Secretary António Guterres, which calls everyone’s attention for a united effort towards combating climate change.
Then, pre-primary kids staged a skit on the theme. Dressed animated cartoon of trees, river and earth, the kids warned every one of the greedy human, who destroys the earth every day. The audience were silenced by the enactments of the kids with powerful message.
Then, the people gathered were given a card each to write peace commitments. Everyone took opportunity to commit by scribbling the thoughts on the paper and was pasted on the Commitment Wall.
Peace dance entailed with scouts and the audience gathered singing in chorus ‘We scouts are, the Messenger of Peace.”
The program ended with a gallery walk, where the classes had displayed the posters designed by the students based on the themes. The posters demonstrated various ideas to combat climate change.
Then, the people went outside with the photo frame, which had the peace messages on and had themselves pictured.
The day ended with shamdrey served to all the scouts and guests. The messages were shared. Peace was committed. Everyone had another day to remember. Everyone dispersed with the responsibility of being the Messenger of Peace.
