Building Community Relationships
The 1st Malvern Scout Troop in Durban, South Africa has been working towards building relationships between members of the city's multi-cultural society. In January 2014 the troop took part in the local community's Tu B'Shvat (Tree) celebration at the Hammarsdale Eco Centre. The scouts demonstrated Backwoods Cooking. Being a small community a number of scouts were introduced to the Jewish community for the first time. For the past two years the troop has demonstrated recycling and re-use crafts to Muslim children at the Al Ansaar SOUK. This is a large trade fair attended by many of the Durban Muslim community. In this way the Troop has worked towards building relationships between the Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Jewish residents of Durban.
Pictures below show the scouts demonstrating at the SOUK and working at the Tu'B'Shvat.
