Brunei Scouts organised 1st Girl Scouts Camp

The event is organised by the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) through the Girl Scouts Division.

Held at the Sports School in Kampong Pulaie, Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari officiated the event.

Skipper Hajah Nor Rahmat binti Haji Saidin, the camp commandant in her capacity as the Girl Scouts Commissioner, said the camp was held to expose the girl scouts to the importance of maintaining health, safety, self-defence, self-esteem and spiritual being.

She added that the idea of organising the camp was to make a difference and create a history for PPNBD, which would be a great achievement for future benchmark for camp gatherings based on the loyalty and scouting laws.

Hajah Nor Rahmat said, “The camp is also conducted in conjunction with International Day of Peace 2019. The camp’s theme is Memperkasa Puteri Bangsa.”

The Girl Scouts Camp has a host of activities leading to the United Nation’s (UN) global sustainable development goals. Hajah Nor Rahmat explained that the first camp will provide two types of badges – camp badge which will be given to each participant, while the Sukmaindra award badge will be for participants following the designated activities.

Events planned for the camp include a special briefing on youth entrepreneurship and sustainable development goals, visits to the Arts and Handicraft Training Centre in the capital and the Maritime Biodiversity Centre in Meragang, as well as activities such as abseiling and rock climbing.
