Breaking Down Mental Health Stigma
My personal vision of success is to break down the stigma of mental health within our community by sharing facts and misconceptions, personal experiences and providing families with resources available in our area. I believe that breaking down stigma is important because it is a form of suicide prevention. I want to let scouts and their families know that mental health is treatable and recovery is possible.
I will execute the project by completing training programs from Red Cross of America and OC health care agency. I will attend school district webinars on mental health. I will research resources on mental health so that I may deliver info to scouts and their families. I will create and deliver a mental health program to scouts and parents. I will create a relationship with organizations and schedule an annual guest speaker on mental health and suicide prevention. Schedule service projects.
Our troop 774 and Laura's house benefited from this project. It also helps anyone who needs resources to mental health.
I learned that you have to be able to have good communication skills to be able to build connections between our unit and organizations that are sustainable. I also learned that you have to be a good public speaker in order to deliver the message . I would make it better to do further training so that I can have more experience on the subject. I also believe that taking a public speaking course may be beneficial.
