The Beginning Of The Sea
As a Scouting activity, we often canoes in nearby rivers. Every time, we clean the trash that is easily found. I was wondering if there were any activities that we could do for the environment from a longer-term perspective, and I came to plan a project‘ The Beginning of The sea’.
It is a project centered on universities and public facilities located in Chuncheon-si, led by Black Bear Rover Scout of Korea Scout Association. We are going to draw pictures and slogans of whales most affected by microplastics around the drain lid.
According to the news, in Korea, up to 0.7 tons of cigarette butts are flowing into the sea a day through sewers. Marine creatures eat microplastics produced when cigarette butts are decomposed, causing environmental pollution. Accordingly, it is long-term project for being carried out to minimize the act of dumping cigarette butts in the sewer. It is difficult to expect immediate effects but we expect our efforts to build up and make a big difference.
I can see that change starts with small things. I think we should also consider a more active way to influence someone more effectively than the current way to attract attention.
