BangaBazar Fire Rescue
Being a Scout means to be of service to the community at whatever scope available. Especially, in the times of national crisis - a scout is the vanguard for rescue and support to the common people.
As a Rover Scout Leader, it is my duty to lead by example. I am happy that I could help rescue some fire victims, help extinguish a part of the fire that burned the entire market to the ground and also distribute iftar (food for breaking fast during Ramadan) to the affected people.
Reaching the fire accident site, I assessed the damage and possible action plans. My team was divided into 3 sub-groups; Team 1 - crowd control, Team 2 - rescuing victims and Team 3 - extinguish fire with fire-hoses.
I participated with Team 2 and Team 3 and supervised activities of Team 1 via telecoms. We rescued some people from ablaze buildings. After that, together with Bidyanondo Foundation, we distribute iftar to the affected people who like us were fasting during Ramadan.
We tried to reach a target group of 250 people. We helped rescue 30-40 people from the fire affected buildings and distributed iftar meals to about 200 people who were affected by the accident and had lost homes, income and resources.
For rescue operations in the field;
1) A good coordination is important between authorities.
2) They should be able to assess and forecast damage and take actions as per plan.
3) Crowd control is very important in the recue project.
4) The rescue teams should wear proper safety equipment and use learnings from previous training.
