Bamboo tree seedlings propagation

Bamboo tree seedlings propagation

The project entails propagation and growing of bamboos, gathering the necessary required resources to set up a bamboo tree seedlings nursery. Identifying the ideal place and location to set up the tree nursery. Taking care of the seedlings until they are mature and ready for transplanting to the farmlands.

The project aims at achieving the following objectives:

  • Promote sustainable income sources through bamboo propagation.
  • Combat the adverse climatic change and its impacts through an increase of bamboo cover.
  • Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of the land around us.
  • Halt and reverse land degradation through bamboo planting.

The project aligns and seeks to promote the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth-Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. Seventy-five percent of Kenya’s population comprises of youth who are majorly unemployed. Adoption of this project by the unemployed would ensure a sustainable source of income.

SDG 13: Climate Action-Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. This has been majorly championed because there is no country that is not experiencing the drastic effects of climate change. By promoting bamboo planting in our communities will help in increasing the tree cover in our country. It will help much in mitigation of global warming and climate change.

SDG 15: Life on Land- Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification and hat and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. It is evident that human life depends on the earth, plants for the human diet, and agriculture as an important economic resource. Mature bamboo trees can be of much benefit to the people and animals since it can be used as fodder for animals, building materials, and as raw materials for some industries for making tiles and wood products.
