Australian Rovers Ride for Humanity

Australian Rovers Ride for Humanity

We set out to ride by bicycle from Sydney to Melbourne as a personal challenge. After beginning the planning we also decided to use the journey to raise funds for Bicycles for Humanity, a charity in Australia that collects disused bikes and sends them to developing countries where they can be used by teachers, health-workers etc. Our team was four cyclists and two support Crew. In completing the journey we rode around 1200kms over 11 days through mountains and flats, through rain and over 35 degree heat. We collected around 40 bikes and raised $2224 dollars. We were later awarded Rovers Australia's award 'Rovering's Greatest Adventure' for the 2012 Year for being the most adventurous and media grabbing story of the year. This came with a prize of $1000 which we also donated to Bicycles for Humanity. I am currently in the planning stages for another trip to cover over 1000km across Victoria visiting Rover Crews.
