Aranzan Scouts Project: Community Pantry
In the midst of the surge of the COVID 19 Pandemic, an individual in the Philippines named Patricia Non started a trend with the purpose of building a sustainable community with the initiative - the Community Pantry. Ever since the first community pantry emerged, Filipinos started the same within their own communities. With the continuous emergence of the project, Scouts from different parts of the country began their own sustainable community pantries to render aid to struggling families.
Like all projects, we began by gathering funds from different donors to jumpstart the project. Once the funds are secured, we have coordinated with our institution for the venue, and the community that will benefit with the Community Pantry. At the day of the execution, we have contacted the head of the community to gather the families to appear in the venue. We, then introduced the project to the beneficiaries, and proceeded with the distribution of the goods, and supplies based on their needs.
The success of the project started a fire with the rest of our Scout brothers and sisters to start their own initiatives that may address the needs of primary necessities such as food, medicines, and clothes to the families affected by the economic instability during the peak of the COVID-19 surge. Afterwards, we then conducted a separate project that was meant to aid the victims of the typhoon that same year. To ensure the continuous assistance to the community, we are now an established group.
During the execution, we have learned that different families have different needs. As initiators of community service projects, we should consider the specific needs of individuals in terms of food allergies, clothing needs, and lifestyle. To better the project, we should conduct a more thorough review of the lives and needs of the beneficiaries to ensure that no resources goes to waste. During an implementation, the benefactors should plan ahead to make sure the sustainability of the project.
