Annual Fort Robinson Tree Plant
In 1989, fire devastated the trees at Fort Robinson State Park. The fire burned more than 48,000 acres on and around the park, including 22,000 acres of trees. Since then, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from six states have gathered each year to plant trees to reforest the park.
In the ensuing 24 years, Scouts have come each year to plant trees. Over those 24 years, over 20,650 Scouts and their leaders from Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, and Minnesota have contributed over 1,486,400 service hours.
Next year, the 25th Anniversary year (April 4 - 6, 2014), we expect to reach our goal to plant 500,000 trees over that 25-year period.
