The Canberra Special Children’s Christmas Party. This is an annual event for children from socio-economic disadvantaged backgrounds, those with intellectual or physical impairment and those who are seriously ill. Venturers work to set up the gift room, displays, help set up catering on day 1. On Day 2 we marshal the parking in the morning, and then help out with whatever needs doing in the afternoon (giving out food, helping at stalls, cleaning up rubbish as the event progresses). At days end we help the organisers to pack the event away. Day one saw 1 Leader, 1 Rover and 7 Venturers working on setup. Day 2 saw an extra leader, one more rover and 4 more Venturers join us in managing parking, entertainment, food delivery and clean-up. We ended up doing our bit to help 1600 children and up to 3000 more of their carers have an excellent day they otherwise would not get to enjoy. The organiser, Paul Munro, has called us to specifically ask for the assistance of ACT Venturer’s for the 2017 Party.
