175 blood bags collected in 12 hours in Togo - 175 poches de sang collectées en 12h au Togo

Around 70,000 Togolese people need blood transfusions every year, but annual blood donations barely meet 2/3 of the needs, and outside help is often the solution, according to Dr. Lochina Feteke, the Director of the National Transfusion Center. In order to stand against the blood shortage, to participate in the achievement of SDG 3 and to commemorate the World Blood Donor Day's celebration, Scouts and members of some associations of Togo including the Lions Club of Lomé, the Coordinating Council of Youth Catholic Action and Club 25 of Lomé (Nyékonakpoè) contribute with 12 hours of their time to collect 28 blood bags then 147 on Saturdays 13 and 27 July 2019 respectively in the enclosure of the Catholic Church St Antoine of Padua at Hanoukope (a district of the town) and at the National Blood Transfusion Center of Lome. Sensitization, mobilization, donation and voluntary service were the tasks of these young Scouts and non Scouts who organized the activities. It was also an opportunity to talk about the mission, the vision, the meaning of the scarf and its different colors, and the different programs of Scouting to the different participants who found interesting and showed their desire to be part of this youth movement whose actions cover all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
