TAKE IT TO YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT: Magbayong sa Talipapa: Reduce and Regulate Plastic Waste in Markets and Food Establishment
In line with the Tide Turner Plastic Challenge, we were tasked to reach out to our local government. Attached here is the document of the letter addressed to our Barangay captain. Also, the attached images here are the short meeting.
CONTENT OF THE LETTER:
Today, our barangay is currently experiencing extensive damage brought by plastic waste in Karangalan Market, food establishments, and groceries. This plastic waste contributes to the hazards such as Flash Flood – which is our municipality, Cainta, is known for.
Since our barangay is still developing, waste management service is limited. Plastics are flexible, durable, and resilient making them a handy material for industrial purposes. However, poses a threat to the environment and biological system since it takes around 300 years to naturally biodegrade. It would be difficult for us to develop further if potential hazards from plastic wastes are neglected since the budget would be aligned to disaster mitigation instead of infrastructure development.
Before we put a budget on canal projects and such, we must reduce plastic waste in those aforementioned places to produce efficient outcomes at a low cost. Barangay San Isidro local government should ban single-plastic waste in markets, groceries, bakeries, pastries, stores, and other food establishments. We should urge people to bring their own bags or bayong.
I hope that our letter would serve as a step towards a greener, healthier, and cleaner Barangay San Isidro.
