Scouts in Madagascar use Tik Tok and Facebook against Coronavirus

More than 185 countries are curently fighting COVID-19, which has become a devastating pandemic. With more than 110,000 deaths worldwide to date, Madagascar is not exempt from it. Since the first confirmed case announced by the President of Madagascar on March 20th 2020, the entire country has been living in slowness, with part of the population in quarantine. The Tily scouts had announced the cancellation of all Scouting activities a few hours before the announcement of this first case.

In any case, Scouts know how to adapt to the situation and how to take advantage of the circumstances. Seeing this situation, however delicate it may be, the Scout sees it as an opportunity to take action in his or her community as an opportunity to take action in his or her community, without infringing the legal and regulatory measures taken by the government.

As such, social medias have become a valuable tool for Scouting. Active young Scouts have shown ingenuity in raising awareness about protection and prevention measures against the spread of the coronavirus.
Tik Tok and Facebook were flooded by Scouts who turned the #scrafchallenge around to share good practices against the spread of the Coronavirus: wearing a mask, washing hands, social distancing, it's all there.

"Even during the lockdown, we can still serve as scouts."

"Just like all those Tik tok challenges on social medias, the idea came to us to bring a little touch of scouting to the challenges, with our scarf and uniform... This shows our common promise. On the other hand, we wanted to show that even during the lockdown, we can still serve, by setting good examples and by applying our Scout promise... " explained KORITA Fanjohy, author of the video that get more than 100 shares on facebook.

The Movement proves once again that scouting never stop and can be tailored to any situation. A good example of Scouting's contribution to SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all.
