Scouts Healing Invisible Wounds

Scouts Healing Invisible Wounds

“Healing the Invisible Wounds" campaign is an initiative by a group of 5 rover scouts from Nairobi, Kenya, whose career fields are in counselling and psychology. We seek to change the narrative on stigma surrounding mental health conditions by engaging scouts and the public in awareness conversations. We also aim at equipping individuals with skills to enable them cope with life setbacks and challenges. Not all wounds are visible, thus the campaign will call all individuals to act and look deep within themselves to see their emotional scars and deal with them. Public awareness as well will help individuals understand the severity of mental health conditions, and help them learn how to be safe spaces to those around them. We also seek to conduct a psychological first aid training that will equip scouts with knowledge and skills on mental health, and eventually begin a sustainable and long term project of initiating mental wellness clubs in high schools. The campaign will include several activities, both online and physically including online conversations, hike, yoga, movie trivia, bonfire and a bike ride for mental health awareness. In the event of the physical meetings, all Covid 19 regulations will be strictly adhered to.

So far we have been able to reach over 2000 people on social media, engaged up to 500 young people through our zoom sessions and refered 20 young people who have had mental issues for psychological support.
