Scouts of Greece celebrate their 110th Anniversary
During 2020 Scouts of Greece will celebrate their 110th Anniversary. For more than a century, thousands of volunteers, develop skills and learn to live, as independent and responsible citizens while taking an active role inside their local communities. The Greek Scout movement celebrating it’s 110th birthday is old enough to have survived two Worlds Wars and many other historic events of the country, but it is more fresh and innovative than ever before.
For this exact moment, Scouts of Greece needed to come up with logo for the anniversary of the scouting movement in Greece. They had to find something to showcase the dynamic and youth side of the movement as well as it’s leading standing in volunteering, social support, protection of the environment matters. But most importantly it needed to symbolize the work of the scouting movement to educate and develop young people as the useful and active responsible citizens of tomorrow.
The logo included the Scout Patrol Leader’s pole with a flag on it, the object that accompanied young scouts all over the country for their adventures into the unknown, for more than a century. A pole that grew bigger and bigger by helping others in need, giving thousand of children a reason to smile and feel useful to other. The first two poles of our logo representing the first two digits, grew bigger as the scouting family in Greece during as this years, ending up being a huger forest. The final 0 in the logo is the minimal depiction of a leaf, symbolizing the unlimited adventures of scout that took place in nature, and adding in the lowest right side of it the Fleur-de-lis.
To mark this special occasion, National Commissioner Mr Christoforos Mitromaras visited the peak of the Mythic Olympus Mountain, the highest mountain in Greece, to mark this celebration and produced a video that you can find below also with English subtitles.
