SCOUTS IN GHANA FOUGHT FOR THE SAFETY OF THE "PANDEMIC VOTER"
Before the 2020 general elections in Ghana, a lot of party footsoldiers were in the communities doing door to door campaigns for their political parties to win the elections.
As scouts and young people leading positive change in our communities , our major concern was the peace and safety of the electorates before, during and after the general elections. The "Fight against Covid19 and Campaign for Electoral Peace Project" team therefore extended their campaign to more rural communities in the northern region of Ghana, in the quest to ensure that more rural duelers have enough information and PPEs to be protected from the spread of COVID19 and maintain the peace during the election period.
The project has given scouts more experience with community entry processes as well as community engagements, we have interacted with thousands of people from different walks of life with COVID19 education and peace campaigns. we were also thrilled with the reception of the community members and how they supported us throughout. During the door to door, some natives of each community visited were assigned to take us round the whole community and through our interaction with these people, we got to know more about the community and their challenges and what their most pressing needs are, they also helped us and got fully involved in the construction of tippy tap hand washing stands in their communities. we showed them how to construct them and gave them some bottles and ropes so that they could continue constructing more of the tippy taps after we leave, this was one of our approaches to making sure our project is sustainable.
We have finished the first phase of the project and will continue with the final stage in the coming weaks and it is our hope that we achieve more of our objectives and goals.
