As is known in the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 12/2020 states that the aim of the scouting movement is to form each Scout member to have a personality who is faithful, cautious, and has noble character, patriotic, law-abiding, and upholds the noble values ​​of the nation.

From the aim of the scouting, it is clear that the meaning of the scouting movement is a candradimuka crater for the formation of the character of the Indonesian millennial generation based on Pancasila.

The scout movement does not consider age restrictions. The basic principle is that the elders are responsible for nurturing and assisting their younger siblings. On the basis of these principles, scouts are an effective medium to forge this millennial generation to grow and develop themselves optimally for the country and the nation. Through the intensity of this assistance, the millennial generation will be helped to find their identity, the virtue of life for the future of the nation, which in the next decade will be their responsibility (Hendra Kurniawan, 2018).

Scout movement assistance

One of the aspects that will be cultivated in the scout movement assistance is none other than the spirit of dedication and service. This determination needs to be instilled in the young souls of the millennial generation to be more grounded. For this reason, the scouting movement, which was originally extracurricular in nature, has now turned into a co-curricular and compulsory activity at every level of education, both at the primary and secondary education levels. The integration of scouts into formal education is based on the importance of this millennial generation to inherit, continue the struggle, and care for the nation that had been fought for by their predecessors.

This noble idea inspired the theme of the 59th Scout Day this year, which is “The role of the Scout Movement in helping with the Covid-19 Disaster Management and Defending the Nation”. This theme realizes how important the value of the unity and integrity of a nation is, which is now beginning to be threatened with many problems. Especially with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, if the building of unity and unity as well as the spirit of compassion is not strengthened, it is feared that this nation will collapse.

The spread of various crimes of corruption, terrorism, radicalism, environmental pollution and intolerance, whose percentage is increasing every day is an indication that this nation will be threatened with moral degradation. For that, it seems that the concern of all parties, including the scout movement to contribute to maintaining the integrity of the nation, is an obligation.

In the new normal period, the scout movement was needed to enlighten the public so that the pace of Covid-19 could be prevented. Some enlightenment can be done by practicing healthy living, wearing masks, adhering to health protocols, avoiding crowds, and so on.

Often people interpret the new normal with different assumptions. They assume the new normal is a pattern of life back to normal as before the pandemic. Even though what is meant by the new normal is that we implement a new normal life that must be implemented to prevent Covid-19 transmission in accordance with health protocols.

The scout movement has a duty to clarify the assumptions that arise in the midst of these communities by always socializing the meaning of a new normal life according to government recommendations.

Strengthening character education

The presence of the Boy Scout movement at the formal education level will support the strengthening of character education which is currently being optimized. As is well known, the Ministry of Education and Culture has echoed the Movement for Strengthening Character Education (PPK) as part of the National Movement for the Mental Revolution. The legal basis for KDP is Presidential Regulation Number 87 of 2017 concerning Strengthening Character Education.

As a national mental revolution movement that wants to be applied in education, the Ministry of Education and Culture determines five main values ​​of interrelated characters, forming a value network that needs to be elaborated as a priority for the KDP movement. The five national character values ​​referred to are religious, nationalist, independent, mutual cooperation, and integrity. All of these character values ​​can be applied in scouting activities.

For this reason, the millennial generation needs to be given the opportunity to wrestle and pursue scouting with meaningful positive activities in line with strengthening character education.

If the character of the millennial generation has been formed, of course the survival of a nation will continue to survive as expected. The responsibility to maintain the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia will continue to be echoed until it can cross the boundaries of time and space. The pramuka millennial generation is like a coconut shoot that is ready to be planted in every inch of the earth to keep the nation's building upright and strong.

In accordance with the philosophy of Tri Satya and Dasa Darma, the Scouting movement has shown evidence especially during this pandemic. They from various levels, both alert, mobilizer, enforcer, and work units have worked hand in hand to contribute both physically and non-physically to help tackle Covid-19 which has paralyzed these joints of life.
