The Rainbow Cafe is open for business!
At the 2007 World Scout Jamboree in the UK, a group of around 20 lgbt adult scouts developed the idea to open a Rainbow Cafe for participants, leaders and visitors of the World Scout Jamboree who support or are a part of the lgbt community. 8 years on, the Rainbow Cafe is bigger and better than ever and it is amazing to see so many people fully supporting the idea.
An international team of volunteers run the cafe and will be holding workshops, meetings and games every day for anybody to take part in. The team are also on hand at any time to provide a listening ear to anybody with an lgbt-specific concern or question, and are recognisable by their rainbow pin badges.
Speaking to people in the cafe, it is clear that the Rainbow Cafe is close to many peoples' hearts; one volunteer said that her goal was to one day have a rainbow flag flying in Jamboree parades.
The cafe is located among the world food tents and opens officially tonight (Thursday 30th July) at 8pm with a party and live music. Anyone is welcome!
