Planet22nd Global Trash Pickup - February 22, 2022
My name is Sean Luca Frankland and I am a Life Scout with Troop 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
I am planning a global trash pickup on February 22nd. By tracking and tabulating how much trash is collected, I hope to demonstrate the collective impact youth (and young at heart) can make in just one day. The cleanup is open to absolutely anyone that would like to participate.
You can see the project website at planet22nd.org. I called the project Planet22nd as it represents a desire to ensure a better, healthier, and sustainable planet in the 22nd century.
The beneficiary for my project is Leave No Trace. As part of the project, I became a LNT trainer and conducted LNT training with a committee of young people from the US, Italy, Kenya, and elsewhere.
Here’s how they can participate:
- Organize a cleanup with friends or family - or just do a solo clean-up. It can be as big or small as they like - a front yard, a local park or beach, or a national park. After the cleanup, weigh the trash and record it at bit.ly/p22report;
- Promote the project on social media - all of the links are here: https://linktr.ee/planet22nd;
- Share the story with scouting units, friends, and family around the world and encourage them to participate.
Scouts that participate can use the activity to demonstrate service and to earn the Messenger of Peace award.
