Miri District Scout Badge Camp a huge success

October 30, 2016, Sunday Mary Francis reporters@theborneopost.com MIRI: It was a successful Miri District Scout Badge Camp, much to the joy and pride of the organisers. The event was held in conjunction with the 59th Jamboree On the Air (Jota) and 20th Jamboree On the Internet (Joti). The camp was organised by Miri District Sea Scout, in collaboration with Miri District Scout Council, Northern Sarawak Amateur Radio Volunteer (NSARV) and Sarawak Amateur Radio Emergency Services (SARES). During the two-day event held at Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang College recently, various interesting activities were held. Among them were HF (High Frequency) Station, VHF (Very High Frequency) Station, Phonetic Alphabet, Q Code Station, MoP (Messengers of Peace) Station and Radio Amateur talk by Jota and conducted by NSARV and SARES. The activities conducted by Joti were Skype, Joti Radio, Jampuz (Jamboree Puzzle), IRC Chat, FB, Instagram and Twitter. Side events included handicraft, cultural night, lighting a bonfire, talks on ‘Anugerah Remaja Perdana Rakan Muda’ organised by the Youth and Sports Department here, foot drill and trials and exams. The events were held under the leadership of station master Joseph Siong and station manager Amri Azmi. Siong and Amri were happy with the success, which they attributed to the good cooperation and teamwork of the participants comprising local scout members. “Following this success, we hope to hold similar one in future with more participants,” they said.
