MESSENGER OF PEACE PROGRAM IN CONJUNCTION WITH 2ND ANNIVERSARY TREE PLANTING DAY FOR BRUNEI SCOUT ASSOCIATION

KUALA BELAIT, 31 May – as part of Messenger of Peace Initiatives program, Brunei Scout Association is holding its second year anniversary tree planting event at Brunei Scout Association tree planting project area, KM 12, Kampung Sungai Mau, Jalan Labi-Liang, Mukim Bukit Sawat, Belait District. The objectives of this event is to support continuous effort to protect the environment, this include the natural resource ecosystem and looking after the existing trees. Also, to spread the message of the Messenger of Peace initiatives on the importance of sustaining the environment for our future. Plant- Protect- Observe-Plant is one concept which Brunei Scout Association been adopting in keeping up the continuous effort in making sure that all the planted trees are in good condition. Together this all will lead to a greener Brunei. Messenger of Peace Program is also known as global program which involves scouts from all over the world in which the scouts come up with projects which can contribute to peace concept in their country level. This year Earth’ day theme’ Trees for the earth’, which aim to plant 7.8 billion trees for over next five years. Therefore, as part of global movement, it is hope that our small action would help in contributing towards realizing the global goal for more sustainable planet. Present as the guest of honour was Haji Awang Badar bin Haji Awang Ali, Chief Commissioner of PPNBD. In his speech, he lauded the involvement of young people in implementing and organizing environment project especially when it comes to Messengers of Peace Initiatives. This can helped them to appreciate nature and the environment. More than 56 scouts from Cub Scouts, Boy Scout, Venture Scout and Rover Scout, Scout Leaders and Scout Commissioners taking part during the event. Also present were PPNBD Vice Presidents, Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Ahmad and Pengiran Abd Wahab bin Pengiran Hassan. The event highlight was planting approximately 107 tree seedlings (Tulung-Tulung and Kapur) supplied by the Forestry Department.
