With less than 120 days to go for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan, the Malta Contingent's preparations are well under way. The Malta Contingent is made up of a total of 28 members from The Scout Association of Malta. The World Scout Jamboree is organised by the World Organization of the Scout Movement every four years, and is typically attended by several tens of thousands of Scouts from around the world, aged 14 to 17. This year, the Jamboree will be held in Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi City, which is located in the western part of Japan facing the calm Seto Inland Sea. It exemplifies many aspects of contemporary Japan such as modern city, beautiful nature, traditional performing arts, old buildings as well as modern industries. "WA: a Spirit of Unity" is the theme for the Jamboree. The Kanji Character "和" (WA) embraces many meanings such as unity, harmony, cooperation, friendship and peace. WA also represents Japan and its culture. The World Scout Jamboree is an opportunity for participants to experience a quality Scouting programme based on the definition, purpose, principles, and needs of young people, as well as the Scout Method. Participants will develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually through a large-scale camping experience in an international environment supported by adults. The Jamboree programme will include module activities, subcamp life, interaction and exchange with scouts gathered from all around the world, with the essence of the theme. During the Jamboree, participants will be taking part in themed activities such as the Global Development Village, Hiroshima Peace Memorial and the Nagasaki Peace Forum.
