It's Okay Not To Be Okay
Recently, Scout Association Of Malawi - SAM and Malawi Royal Scouts organized a mental health conference under the theme "Community: Supporting Mental Well-being Together" as part of our ongoing efforts to normalize conversations about mental well-being and mental health awareness through our It's Okay Not To Be Okay initiative. The conference brought together young people and adults from diverse backgrounds to openly discuss, share experiences, and create a supportive space where everyone feels valued and accommodated.
The event featured engaging sessions, including a plenary session where Howard Maujo (Executive Commissioner), Dr. Mary Shawa (Senior Scout Leader), Mphatso Chisale (Central Region Youth Commissioner Malawi Girl Guides Association), and Clau Miseu (Moderator and Scout Leader) interacted with the audience, as well as breakout sessions on the Buddy System and Safe Space, and fun scouting activities.
I had the privilege of facilitating the Safe Space breakout session, which was truly enriching. Listening to the stories and insights from young people and adults was amazing. By the end of the day, we collectively committed to creating safe spaces in our families, communities, and the world at large.
