The International Day of Peace 2021

The International Day of Peace is observed around the World every 21stof September. The United Nations declared this day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace through observing 24 hours on non-violence and ceasefire, both within and among all nations. The World Scout Bureau, Asia-Pacific Region under the umbrella of Messengers of peace has taken this initiative for the past six years in celebrating the International Day of Peace as a day creating awareness, inspiring young people and leaders to make this day a commitment day for year-round peace actions. This year‟s theme as announced by the United Nations is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”. Everyone is invited to join efforts in focusing on recovering better for a more equitable and peaceful world celebrating the day by spreading compassion, kindness and hope in the face of the pandemic, and as we recover. Goal for International Day of Peace 2021 Through the programme of the Bharat Scouts and Guides National Headquarters, a large number of young people in peace actions/activities at all levels(physically or virtually as per the local situations)with the objective of creating massive awareness on the roles they can play as global citizens leading to positive changes in their communities is involved. Focus for this year is to unite and share thoughts in healing and changing the planet for the better. Scouting aims to “Create a better World” and this year‟s theme „Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world” will help us to reflect on this tagline.

In the first day of webinar I got the information on Earthtribe. The EarthTribe is a global movement of young people who are passionate about the environment and actively engaged as global citizens to preserve & protect our planet. To become an Earth Tribe member, one need to complete at least 1 out of 3 of the environmental challenges. The Resource Speaker Mr.Syd Castillo was very good in delivering the topic.

In the second day of webinar the topic dealt was SDGs and story telling. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

The 17 SDGs are integrated—they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Countries have committed to prioritize progress for those who're furthest behind. The SDGs are designed to end poverty, hunger, AIDS, and discrimination against women and girls.

The creativity, knowhow, technology and financial resources from all of society is necessary to achieve the SDGs in every context.

The Resource Speaker Sri.Prassanna Shrivastava gave in detail the theme of International Day of Peace, Peace actions by Scouts were showcased.
