
Cooperation agreement between Soma Hellinon Proskopon (Scouts of Greece) and Armenian HOMENETMEN-H.A.S.K Scouts Greece
A memorandum of understanding between the Scouts of Greece (SHP) and the Armenian Scouts Homenetmen-H.A.S.K. Greece - in accordance with the provisions of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) - was signed on Monday, December 12, 2016 at SHP’s Central Administration offices, which regulates the operation of the existing Armenian Scout Groups, but also those that are to be established in the future. The MOU was signed on SHP’s side by the Chairman of the National Board Mr. Christos Lygeros and the Chief Commissioner Mr. Theodore Kefalas and on the Armenian Homenetmen side by the President of the Homenetmen Greece Regional Executive Committee, Mr. Sarkis Aghabatian and the Chairman of the Board Mrs. Aknes Tokatlian –Sirapian.
The meeting was attended by SHP’s members of the National Board, Mr. I. Kasmiroglou –Vice President, Mr. N. Haliassos – Secretary General, Mr. N. Efstathiou - Permanent Deputy Commissioner, Mr. M. Kostakos - Regional Commissioner of Saronic and Th. Karailanidis - Assistant Regional Commissioner of Saronic and on behalf of the Armenian community Mr. Tzanikian Karampet- Vice President of the Regional Council, Mrs. Kohar Algianakian -Dangourian- Secretary District Council Bedros Mikaelian– Commissioner of Armenian Scouts of Greece and members of the board Manoukian Haroutioun & Khachik Minassian.
Armenian Scouts Homenetmen operate in Greece since 1923. Soma Hellinon Proskopon (Scouts of Greece) stood by their side through the difficult years and supported their effort to preserve the Armenian Scouting in Greece, cooperating with Homenetmen and the Armenian community. This MOU applies the inclusion of the Armenian Scouts Homenetmen Groups and their members in the family of Scouts of Greece, as equal members. The two (2) Armenian Scout Groups of Nikaia & Nea Smirni, will be integrated under the management of Regional Scout District of Saronic. The Armenian Scout Groups that are to be established in the future will follow the identification procedure described in the SHP Administration Regulations and all (existing and future) will have the same rights and the same obligations as the other members of Scouts of Greece. The Armenian Scouts of Greece will have the right to wear the Promise badge and national scarf of Armenians Scouts as well as the cuff band and the badges of the two specific training schools of Homenetmen (Araradian and Vgayal).
The integration of the Armenian Scouts Homenetmen in the ranks of Greek Scouting is a testament to the feelings of mutual respect, friendship and cooperation linking both Scout organizations, marking a new page in the history of the Scout Movement.
