Building Resilient Youth for a Brighter Future

The project was inspired by the continuous motivation and guidance of our Deputy Chief, Sir Dhojee Wangchuck, throughout the camp. His encouragement motivated me to take an active role in supporting the participants and making the program meaningful. The program began on December 30 at Gaselo, where students from various high schools across Punakha, Wangdue, Gasa, and Thimphu gathered to participate in the camp. During the program, I had the opportunity to teach the participants the basics of scouting, first aid, and drills, while also engaging them in activities designed to build teamwork, cooperation, discipline, and leadership. Activities such as cooking competitions and hikes provided the participants with practical opportunities to learn from one another, work as a team, and develop confidence beyond the classroom.

One of my biggest learnings from implementing this project was understanding that every person comes from a different background and carries a different story. This experience reminded me that we should not be quick to judge or ignore people, as someone who may appear different or difficult could actually be in need of support, understanding, and guidance. If I were to improve the project in the future, I would place even greater emphasis on creating opportunities for participants to share their experiences, understand one another, and support each other. Overall, the project taught me that meaningful leadership is not only about teaching skills, but also about understanding people, showing compassion, and helping others grow together.
