BOOKBRIDGE COMES TO SRI LANKA

The Sri Lanka Scout Association has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bookbridge Foundation based in Switzerland to set up Learning Centres in Communities in Sri Lanka. The MOU was signed on Saturday 19th September at 10 a.m. at the National Scout Headquarters. Mr Abdullah Rasheed President of the Bookbridge Foundation signed on behalf of the Foundation and Prof. Nimal de Silva Chief Commissioner signed on behalf of the Sri Lanka Scout Association. Mr Carsten Ruebsaamen CEO and Co Founder of Bookbridge and Ms.Monika Nowaczykby - Directorwere present. The President of SLSA Mr C. Batuwangala, Chairman Committee of Council Mr Ransiri Perera, Deputy Chief Commissioner Mr Shiraz Salih, International Commissioner Mr Janaprith Fernando were associated in the presence of Commissioners from NHQ and Districts. The first Country to set up BB Learning Centre was Mongolia followed by Cambodia and at present 14 centres are in operation. Sri Lanka is the third Country. The blessings of the Govt. of Sri Lanka will also be obtained to implement the project. It is a Social Enterprise that sets up learning centres as social businesses to bring quality education to people in need and through this to improve their life. 8 centres are to be set up initially in Sri Lanka. It will be a centre to serve the communities in different ways and will be a multifaceted benefit to the community.
