7TH AFRICAN SCOUT DAY CELBRATIONS

The Africa Scout Day is celebrated yearly on the 13th of March across the African Continent with a goal of celebrating the movement's contribution to the development of Africa. This date emanated as a result of the meeting of Scout leaders for the first time on 13th March 1961 in Nigeria to discuss the organization of the Africa Scout Region. Against this backdrop, in June, 1995 through the 62nd ordinary session of the Organization of African Union (OAU) now African Union (AU) officially endorsed the 13th of March for the celebration of the Africa Scout Day. The region has officially celebrated this day in Burundi - 2011, Angola - 2012, Addis Ababa - 2013, Swaziland - 2014, Uganda - 2015, Ghana - 2016 and Tanzania - 2017. This year's celebration took place from 8th to 11th March at Kisongo Prison Grounds located about 45 kilometres from Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha, Tanzania with the theme; "Engaging youth for active and responsible citizenship". It recorded the following programmes: i) Better World Activities. ii.) Messengers of Peace Workshop iii.) Dialogue for Peace Workshop The workshops engaged a total of 20 and 22 youths on Messengers of Peace Programme and Dialogue for Peace Programme respectively, and more than 80 kids, Youths and Adult Scouts and Non-scouts in the Better World Tent from more than 20 NSO's / NSA's within and outside Africa. The main Celebration which took place at Arusha International Conference Centre was graced by various dignitaries from the movement as well as the political circle within and outside Africa.
