The 28th ISGF World Conference Officially Open in Bali, Indonesia

The 28th International Scout and Guide Fellowship (ISGF) World Conference has begun. The conference was held at Inna Bali Beach Hotel, Sanur, Bali, from 9 to 14 October 2017. A total of ISGF member representatives from 66 countries attended the conference. The ISGF is a world level organization that overshadows similar organizations in many countries as a place for adults over 25 who have been active in Scouting and still want to live on the Scout principles and values. The conference was officially opened by the Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia represented by the Director General of Politics and General Government, Major General (Ret.) Soedarmo. In his speech, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo said the Scouting movement is a non-formal education that helps young people to have a better future. The educational movement shapes the character of its members, and it has been shown to play a major role in helping people become positive people who are ready to contribute to the family environment, society, nation and country. Furthermore, given the positive impact of the scouting movement, the Government of Indonesia decided to put Scouting activity as an obligatory extracurricular in elementary and junior high school. Also the Government strengthens the sSouting presence in Indonesia through the Scout Movement by forming the Law on Scout Movement. Tjahjo Kumolo also mentioned about the moral principles and values of the Scouting movement that are always ready to help the community. That is why, those who have become scout members including ISGF members are always on hand to help the community through community empowerment activities. The opening ceremony was also enlivened by a music presentation from Balinese musician, Gus Teja, and Balinese dance performance by the students of SMA Negeri 3 Denpasar. The conference participants will also get a chance to get to know more about Balinese culture with educational tour to some villages in Bali. Photos by The Indonesia Scout Journalist members.
