During this activity, you will unleash your creativity and find tranquillity. You will create mesmerizing circular designs using natural objects found outdoors while discovering the powerful symbolism of balance and harmony. Explore how connecting with nature and expressing yourself through art can positively impact your emotional well-being!

Materials Needed

Pictures of different mandalas 

Activity description
  1. Ask everyone to find a spot in nature where they can sit comfortably.
  2. Explain to everyone that a mandala is a square containing a circle, and the entire design is symmetrical and balanced, they represent balance and harmony.
  3. For ages 5 to 10, ask them to create a mandala using natural objects they find on the ground. Encourage them to be creative and arrange the objects in a way that feels aesthetically pleasing to them.
  4. For ages 11 to 16, ask them to create a mandala using natural objects and scissors (if available) to cut the objects into different shapes. Encourage them to think about the meaning behind their mandala and how it relates to their own balance and harmony.
  5. For ages 17 to 26, ask them to create a mandala using natural objects and incorporate a reflective writing component. Encourage them to reflect on how the act of creating a mandala and connecting with nature made them feel, and how they can use this experience to support their mental health and build emotional resiliency.

Once you complete the activity, use these questions to start reflection:

  • How did making your mandala in nature make you feel?
  • What does your mandala represent to you, and how does it relate to your life's balance and harmony?
  • Did this creative experience in nature have any positive effects on your mood or mindset?
  • How can you incorporate moments of nature-inspired reflection into your daily routine for enhanced well-being?
