Through community contact, we became aware that many of our veterans, active military, and their families are having trouble making ends meet and the American Legion in town was trying to start up a food pantry for them. We partnered with them to help them get off to a great start so they can help military families who sometimes feel like they are invisible. This was a way of giving back to our military personnel who sometimes feel that they are forgotten and their sacrifice both as a soldier as well as their family's sacrifice is overlooked by the general population. Over the course of the weekend, over $1,000 in food was donated. The scouts helped to pack the food into bags to make it easier for people to support the new food pantry, we also spent the weekend asking people in the community to support the food pantry, and then we transported the food to the site.
