Mind Builders
Challenge
Mental health and well-being are vital, it's time to strengthen your mind! With the Mind Builders challenge, your Scouts can learn about mental health, build resilience, and develop effective coping strategies to navigate life's challenges.
Healthy minds, strong resilience, and taking action!
Mental health is not just about managing stress; it is about fostering a balanced and fulfilling life. It’s like the cornerstone of overall well-being, providing the strength and clarity we need to thrive. Through understanding mental health, we learn to recognise and manage our emotions, build strong relationships, and adopt practices that support our overall happiness.
By nurturing our mental health knowledge, we can improve our overall resilience, enhance our daily interactions, and inspire others to prioritise mental well-being.
Why the Mind Builders challenge?
This challenge aims to raise mental health awareness, promote positive mental well-being, empower young advocates, increase community engagement around this topic, and measure impact and long-term change. When people have tools to manage challenges and stressful circumstances from a young age, they are more likely to lead happier lives and achieve fulfilment.
Breaking the stigma around mental health is an important step in this challenge and one that will be put into practice with the community projects of Scouts.
Rooted in positive psychology principles, this challenge enables participants to explore and cultivate key elements of well-being, propelling them toward a life of self-fulfillment and resilience.
As a final step in the challenge, a community service project needs to be implemented by the young people applying for the badge. It's the main purpose of the challenge, where all the knowledge and skills gained are put into action, creating a real and positive impact in community.
Who can join the challenge?
This challenge is designed for young people aged seven and above, who want to learn about mental health, help themselves, and extend their learnings to others to benefit from.
Learning Objectives: What young people will learn along the way?
This challenge will be the first for the Mental Health learning path under HealthAllies. To maximise the impact of the challenge, the focus will be on the different blocks of mental health, mentioned above. Due to this, the challenge will be using the learning path’s learning objectives as its primary focus.
The learning objectives of each challenge not only aim to educate and inspire but also to empower individuals, guiding them step by step on a journey tailored to their age. This personal progression ensures that each young person's knowledge evolves from one activity or project to another and builds competencies for sustainable development.
How can my Scouts earn their badge?
Challenge Pack will be available soon, stay tuned!
To achieve the badge, Scouts must start with a self-assessment, found in the Challenge Pack, to determine which blocks they are more familiar with and which ones they may need additional support on. They will proceed to complete at least two activities under each block. Finally, they will need to complete a community engagement project and upon completion, will be required to revisit the self-assessment.
