Next Generation Initiative Project
Next Generation Initiative is a giving back to the society program developed and comprising of 5 Rover scouts from Kenyatta University Panthera Rover Crew. The initiative handles various activities which all sum up to giving back to the society as well as fulfilling our Rover Scout motto - Service. Enthusiasm, Team work and passion have been the driving forces behind all our activities and we never tire rendering our sevices to the community out there. Currently the project at hand is about health, hygiene and sanitation at Grace Community Children's Home, Kahawa West, Nairobi. The project commenced on April 2019 and it's ongoing till all the goals are met.The goals which include achieving a high standard of hygiene and sanitation in the home. As a team we agreed to handle this project in particular because we observed that cleanliness and sanitation standards (in most of the children's home in Nairobi) are not observed to the latter and therefore we felt the need to address this situation. On this present day we embarked on a soap and detergent making activity from 9.00am, all in a bid to ensure that the cleanliness standards are improved in the home. Therefore, as a team we bought some raw materials required in the making of homemade soap and detergents. Additionally, we involved some pupils from the home who we taught how to mix the different raw materials in order to come up with a final soap or detergent product. The detergents made included: general purpose liquid washing detergent, white bleach out, hand wash, toilet disinfectant and jik colour. Thereafter, we gave the concerned parties of the children’s home, more so their caretaker who was also their store manager and the few pupils present, additive information on how the detergents should be used, this included the required quantities as well. After which the soap and detergents made were stored in jerricans and put in the store. Our activities on this particular day ended at 4.00pm.
