Advocacy and stream Adoption
I, being a part of the rover scouts of Royal Thimphu College, was inspired to join the scout leaders to take action on the waste problems along the road and the stream nearby. I wanted to lessen the waste production through actual cleaning as well as through advocacy programs. Looking at the project plan, the project was going to create a vast positive impact on the environment and the residents. Therefore, I joined this project.
The project was carried out in Ngabiphu, Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Thimphu is one of the most populated cities with an ever-increasing waste management problem. The project was carried out twice in a month for 1 and half years. The project was divided into two levels: The Discovery level and the service level. I, along with the 34 participants actively engaged in all the social works towards the local community.
About 2000 people living around the area benefitted from the project. -Made the community aware of waste management. -The construction of 'Waste Collecion Facility' at Ngabiphu. -Collaborated with other stakeholders such as 'Greener Way' and 'Thimphu City Corporation'.
Leadership skills and coordinating skills among rover scouts. -Achieved clean water at the local level. -The achievements from this project motivated me to work for any social cause in our society because the satisfaction at the end of the project has much genuine sense of achievement. Moreover, teamwork is much important in such a project as without the support from many members, the project cannot move faster with its intended goals.
