Storm shows children that they matter

Algoa Sea Scout Aarin Storm Anthony identified a local children’s home in one of Gqeberha’s underserved communities. The children living there had very limited access to books, toys, basic furniture, or structured play opportunities. He saw a deep need not just for material goods but for care, connection, and a sense of inclusion. He wanted to use his Scouting skills to bring joy, learning, and dignity to children who often feel forgotten.
Storm began planning the project in January 2025, raising funds through food sales, speaking at Scout meetings to gain support, and reaching out to family, friends, and community members for donations. He used the funds raised to buy new and second-hand items including books, puzzles, furniture, stationery, toys, and sports gear. On Youth Day (16 June 2025), Storm - with the help of Patrol members - delivered the donations and hosted a full Scouting Experience Programme at the children’s home.
Storm learnt that caring about others isn’t just something you say, it’s something you do. Planning everything and spending time with the kids made him realise how little some people have. It really opened his eyes and made him more thankful for the things he has. He also saw how good it feels to help others. It’s not just about giving stuff, it’s about showing people that they matter.
