//Lesson at Underwater World Singapore (USW) with Professor Diong Cheong Hoong
With the support of Underwater World Singaporeand Professor Diong Cheong Hoong from the National Institute of Education, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Science Education, the team had the chance totake a look at captivated turtles at UWS as well as to learn and understand more about turtles. Professor Diong is an expert in turtles and has been an active advocate of turtle conservation.
The day started with Professor making an introduction about the seven species of turtles in the world. It was an eye-opening lesson as we gained knowledge of the endangered species.
- THE PROJECT (LEARN & DECIDE, DO) -
Project Orion III is the fifth SWA Voluntary Service in Singapore base and the third instalment in Project Orion that was started three years ago. The project, lasting 15 days from 16thto 30th June, besides contributing to the conservation of sea turtles, but will also involve team members in mangrove replanting, repair work for the villagers of Kampung Mangkuk and the WWF Info Centre, English and conservation awareness education and assisting in the local women's cottage industry amongst others.
- POST-EVENT (SHARE) -
For post-event, we had a few hours to cub scouts from Beacon Primary School. Post-event allowed us to impart what we had learnt from our two weeks in Terengganu to the younger generation. They were very amused when we showed them a video of hatchlings emerging from the nest. I believe if the efforts for educating the younger generation can be sustained, we are able to eradicate irresponsible acts that disrupt biodiversity.
