ISKOUTS Coastal Clean Up 2015
The Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP) members of the Batangas Province Science High School held its annual coastal clean-up at Quizumbing Bay, Calaca, Batangas, September 18, 2015.
The school’s BSP Coordinator, Mr. Christopher B. Andino, led the scouts in the process of cleaning wastes materials present on the bay. A total of 62 students, 4 teachers are present during the event.
The eagle scouts and eagle scout candidates served and proven their applicative learnings as well as their leadership in conformity to the scout oath and law. The goal of this project is to strengthen the environmental awareness, to lessen environmental destructive factors and to instill good relationship between student and its nature.
At first, the scouts are given the orientation about the event, then, they are grouped according to their assigned crews with one would-be eagle senior as their leader, the cleaning and collection begun afterwards, some students are also assigned in digging a compost pit where some of the garbage would be placed.
The event lasted for 2 hours with a very satisfying result, the change is visually considerable and the results are satisfying. The collected scraps and garbage that are biodegradable are buried while the segregated non-biodegradable wastes are brought to the community dump.
The administration are expecting that everyone will learn and understand the importance of community service project with regards to issues specially the current situations occurring in our environment today. As a scout they are to be the leaders not only when they are obliged to join a project but within their own capacity whenever needed.
The event is commented to be successful with the approval of the students and of course their leaders, the key points learned are concern, eco-friendliness and attentiveness.
