Hygiene Bags for Peru
We make and fill cloth drawstring bags to go to children in the rural areas of Peru.
The bags are handmade with a drawstring. Enclosed are hygiene and educational items. Contents include soap in knitted bag, toothbrush, comb, toys(some hand knitted for the younger children,as seen in one of our photos),lead pencils, coloured pencils, eraser and pencil sharpener. Our Venturer unit and our Scout troop have all participated in the making of the bags and bringing in the contents on a regular basis. We have a contact in Australia who travels to Peru yearly, taking some volunteers with him, they divide the bags between them and take them over.We have had feedback that as a direct result of us supplying the toothbrushes there has been a big improvement in the oral health of the children. As a result of better hygiene practices children are staying healthy enabling them to go to school on a more regularly, therefore obtaining their education on a more consistent basis. This will be an ongoing project within our group.
We are meeting the following 2 World Sustainable Development goals No 3.Good health and Wellbeing and No 4 Quality Education.
